Fujifilm unveils F300EXR compact superzoom with Hybrid autofocus system

Fujifilm has unveiled the FinePix F300EXR which debuts a new Hybrid autofocus system that the company claims is as fast as that on DSLRs. The camera automatically chooses between using the contrast-detection AF method used in compact cameras and the phase-detection method usually used in DSLRs. In addition the F300 offers a 15x optical zoom lens starting at a wide 24mm, a 1/2" 12MP Super CCD EXR sensor and a 460k 3.0" LCD. The camera's image stabilization system has also been tweaked, adding a 'Gyro' sensor to detect a wider range of camera movements that can contribute to shaky images. Other features include manual exposure modes, 360 degrees Motion Panorama and a Super Intelligent flash that attempts to balance flash illumination across the foreground and background.

Second generation EXR Sensor technology NEW! Hybrid Auto Focus System NEW!
One of the disadvantages of longer zoom compacts is relatively slow auto focusing. Typical compacts rely on Contrast Detection, which works by fixing the focus by searching for contrast differentials. Some expensive cameras, including many DSLRs, use two focusing systems in tandem to improve the time taken to auto focus. Phase Detection AF works by dividing the incoming light into pairs of images and calculating the phase difference to find if the object is in front focus or back focus position. Contrast AF is generally better in low-lit scenes, while Phase Detection AF is extremely responsive in good light. Having both systems on one camera is perfect. The FinePix F300EXR uses both Contrast AF and Phase Detection AF to offer auto focus speeds as good as, or sometimes better than expensive DSLRs. To achieve the incredible AF speed of 0.158*1 seconds, Fujifilm engineers placed pairs of phase detection sensors on the EXR sensor, which work exactly like external sensors on DSLRs. The FinePix F300EXR automatically selects the optimum focus system, by measuring the amount of light or contrast in the scene. The benefit for the photographer is immediate and obvious: an almost instantaneous capture of the subject in the viewfinder, with no missed shots or subjects half out-of-frame.

Super CCD EXR - The Quality Edge
Introduced last year with the FinePix F200EXR, this radical new approach to sensor technology has been met with rave reviews and numerous awards from international industry organisations such as EISA and TIPA. The FinePix F300EXR sports the latest 12 megapixel version of the EXR sensor, offering even higher resolution than its predecessor whilst still offering class-leading dynamic range and low noise/high sensitivity options. Modelled on the human eye, the EXR sensor's unique design means that the user can switch the behaviour of the sensor according to the scene to the photographed. When the light is strong and even, the camera can be switched to HR (High Resolution) mode to ensure every small detail is recorded. When light is strong but contrasty, the sensor can switch to DR (Wide Dynamic Range) mode to get the optimal balance between highlight and shadows. Lastly, in low light the sensor will switch to SN (High Sensitivity and Low Noise) mode, to ensure clean noise-free pictures even in the darkest conditions.

EXR Automatic or Manual operation – You decide
For the ultimate in 'point and shoot' simplicity with perfectly optimised results whatever, whenever and wherever you're shooting, EXR Auto mode takes the guesswork out of setting the camera by doing everything for you. With six pre-set scene modes covering the most popular subjects; Landscape, Portrait, Macro, Night, Night Portrait, and Backlit Portrait, EXR Auto automatically detects the scene and not only optimises the focus, exposure and white balance but chooses the optimum EXR mode, too. If you prefer the hands-on approach, all three sensor modes can be selected manually for true creative freedom and total control. EXR was developed by Fujifilm to maximise quality in camera designs where larger sensors simply cannot be used, making it perfect for a long zoom compact, delivering extraordinary results even in the most challenging conditions. Fujinon 15x Optical Zoom Lens

Super Wide to Super Telephoto (24-360mm*2)
Teams of Fujifilm sensor and lens engineers worked closely together to develop a lens/sensor combination which works perfectly together. The toughest assignment was to produce the high quality 15x lens, which offers an incredible 24mm – 360mm focal length, while still optimising quality via the new EXR sensor. From sweeping landscapes, interiors and large group shots to distant sports or wildlife action, the FinePix F300EXR opens up a world of photographic possibilities that you can carry with you wherever you go.

The secret of the Slim design
Such high zoom ratios have hitherto only been possible in larger ‘bridge’ cameras, but Fujinon engineers have developed a clever ‘double sliding’ lens mechanism, which means that 2 lens elements neatly fold away from the path of the retracting lens, giving a remarkably neat, compact look, and a camera depth of 32.6 mm, which is similar to a number of lesser zoom models on the market. Professional Optics
Long zoom compacts depend heavily on the quality of the optics, so no expense has been spared to provide the FinePix F300EXR with the sharpest, clearest Fujinon 15x zoom lens. With a Super Electronic Beam Coating (EBC), that keeps ghosting and flare to a minimum, you are ensured optimal picture quality. The Fujinon brand name guarantees optical quality across the entire zoom range that you'll see from the first picture you take. Fujinon lenses are acclaimed by photographers, broadcasters (Fujinon are the world's leading manufacturer of television camera lenses) and industrial users across the globe.

Advanced technology in a slim shell
Gyro Sensor to improve Image Stabilisation on both movies and stills NEW!
To achieve the sharpest possible pictures, even at the longest telephoto range, Fujifilm engineers have developed a new gyro sensor to radically improve the performance of the CCD-shift image stabilisation. Previously, the stabilisation worked very effectively to control high frequency narrow-range vibration, but less well with slower, broader-sweep movement. The new sensor in the FinePix F300EXR works very well with both, controlling all forms of handshake movement to produce sharp, crisp, images at the touch of a button. Increasing the ISO to freeze the action is no longer as necessary, meaning beautifully sharp low-light pictures can be achieved at ISO 400, rather than 800 or 1600 ISO.

Perfect Handling
Despite its pocket-friendly size, the FinePix F300EXR sits nicely in the hand for easy controlled shooting. The sculpted grip fits the fingers perfectly, while the slanted mode dial gives easy access to all the important camera controls. The finish to the black, all-metal chassis, is solid and finely crafted, and offers protection from minor knocks or abrasions. At only 103.5mm wide, 59.2mm high and 32.5mm deep, the camera is remarkably compact for a 15x zoom lens.

3.0” High Contast, High Resolution LCD screen
Of considerable benefit in bright sunlight, the 3.0” high contrast (1:1200 ratio), wide-view LCD screen allows you to tilt the camera at various angles and still see the picture on the screen. Additionally, with a new enhanced 460K dot resolution NEW!, this LCD screen will really bring out the detail and colour in your photos and allow you to see every last blade of grass.

360˚ Motion Panorama for the Perfect All-Round Shot NEW!
Recently popularised on cameras employing a ‘Backside Illuminated’ CMOS sensor, ‘sweep’ or ‘motion panorama’ shots have really become popular with photographers wanting to create beautiful panoramic landscape shots. New to the second generation EXR sensor is a and extends the sweep range from 270˚ to 360˚ (shots can also be taken vertically). Combining this with high quality printing on Fuji Frontiers or inkjets, astounding scenes can be taken, showing fine detail, low noise and high resolution.

Super Intelligent Flash
The FinePix F300EXR is fitted with a class-leading flash control system that efficiently controls the flash power to produce beautifully balanced flash illumination across the foreground and background, even in macro mode. Gone are the ugly washed out shots where the subject is blasted with light and the background dark and under exposed. With the improved gyro stabilisation system, lower ISO settings can be used, meaning that slower shutter speeds give more balanced night portrait shoots, with smooth gradation and lower noise.

Improved Pro Focus Mode
One of the ways to distinguish DSLR photography from compact camera photography has been the use of a wide aperture to produce a narrow depth of field separating the main subject from a soft background. Introduced on the F200EXR, Pro Focus Mode has proved very popular with photographers. Through complex digital imaging technology, several exposures are combined to create a crisp shot of the subject against a defocused background and foreground. Ideal for portraiture, nature photography or any subject that needs 'lifting' from its background, the FinePix F300EXR Pro Focus Mode provides satisfying professional results at the touch of a button. Good results are now even simpler to achieve as Pro Focus Mode has been been combined with Face Detection and Face Recognition.

Designed for the Photographer
Similar to other high-end FinePix models, the FinePix F300EXR offers five different film 'modes' to allow the photographer full creative expression to explore a variety of pre-set colour and contrast modes designed around Fujifilm's most famous film emulsions. The modes are:
Velvia/Vivid (for dramatic full saturation colour)
PROVIA/Standard (for classic 'neutral' photography)
ASTIA/Soft (for gentle, low contrast portraiture and soft, fine, smooth tonality)
Sepia (for antique, warms tones)
Black & White (for dramatic monotones)
The FinePix F300EXR offers Program Mode, Aperture-Priority Mode, Shutter-Priority Mode and Manual modes to give the photographer creative control for those difficult or challenging subjects. Auto Release for photos of babies and children
We’ve all tried to take a photo of kids who will just not sit still. A clever new mode on the F300EXR will not fire the camera until the subject looks straight at the lens. Using Face Detection technology, the camera can ‘recognise’ a front-on face and will quickly take the shot before attention is distracted. It takes all the hard work out of taking pictures of children and is remarkably successful at capturing sharp, high quality shots with minimal fuss.

High Definition movies and stills
The FinePix F300EXR features a high resolution HD movie mode (720p) with sound, and the camera's micro HDMI*3 output allows you to easily display ultra clear high definition photographs and movies on high definition televisions.

Salient Features of Panasonic SDR-H90 HDD Video Camera

Optical 70x Ultra Zoom
This 70x zoom lens has the power you need to take dramatic close-ups or get remarkable shots of even distant subjects. But with long-distance zoom shots, even a tiny bit of hand shake has a huge effect on picture quality. That's where optical image stabilization comes in. Panasonic's Advanced O.I.S. shifts a corrective lens as you shoot to help eliminate the effects of hand shake, so you get clear, sharp shots even at high zoom levels. It's an essential feature for getting the most out of this incredible zoom lens.

Advanced O.I.S.
Panasonic's Advanced O.I.S. helps suppress the effects of hand-shake as you shoot, for both motion and still images. This system uses gyrosensors to detect even tiny amounts of hand-shake, then shifts a lens and adjusts the optical axis to compensate - all at an astounding 4,000 times per second. It also covers approximately 3 times the stabilization area of our previous SD9 model. Because the system is optical, there's minimal loss of image quality even when viewed on a large-screen TV.

Pure Color Engine
The Pure Color Engine converts the CCD output signal from a complementary color signal into an RGB signal at an early stage and extracts the low-frequency luminance component from the RGB signal. This innovative engine also achieves truly superb color reproduction for high-zoomed pictures.

Soft Skin Mode
When this function detects skin tones, it softens the focus in that area. This has a skin beautifying effect, which makes wrinkles and lines appear less noticeable. When turned on, this function makes blemishes and moles look less conspicuous, while preserving resolution in areas of the picture outside of the skin.

Shooting Functions
iA (Intelligent Auto)
Sometimes a scene is backlit or too dark, or it's difficult to get a good focus on the subject. Adjusting the settings every time is not only a hassle, it can be very tricky. That's where iA comes in. This powerful function senses the shooting conditions and automatically makes the settings and activates functions that will deliver optimal results. With both motion and still images, iA lets you forget about bothersome settings and makes it easy to capture beautiful, well-focused images.

Face Detection AE/AF
This mode captures faces beautifully. Face Detection automatically senses the ambient lighting and adjusts the exposure accordingly, so faces are bright and easy to see. The focus also prioritizes the faces, and skin tones are smoothed. Faces in the center of the frame serve as the reference for adjustments, but the function can detect up to 15 faces in all.

Shake Detection: Advanced O.I.S.
When hand-shake is detected while shooting, the Advanced O.I.S. system is automatically activated to compensate for blurring and produce beautiful recorded images. Because the system is optical, there's only minimal loss of image quality even when viewed on a large-screen TV.

Scene Selection: Intelligent Scene Selector
The shooting conditions are detected, and the optimal Scene mode is automatically selected. Even if the subject should change, there's no need to manually redo the settings, so you can concentrate entirely on your shot.

80 GB Hard Drive
The internal hard drive lets you record continuously for up to 72 hours without changing a disc, SDHC/SD Memory Card or other recording media.

One-touch Navigation and Joystick Control
The joystick makes the camera much easier to use, letting you control all basic operations quickly. As you shoot, just watch the image in the monitor and follow the instruction guide. You can handle a number of operations quickly and easily, without even taking your eye off the subject.

Help Mode Not sure what a certain icon means? Just switch on the Help mode and select the icon. It's explained for you on the LCD monitor. This makes it easier to learn the icons, and you spend less time reading the operating manual.

Pre-rec Function
This clever new function records three seconds of images even before you actually begin shooting. The images are held temporarily in the camcorder's internal memory, before recording onto the SDHC/SD Memory Card begins. This helps ensure that you won't miss the start of a moment you want to record, such as when an event begins all of a sudden. For example, if you're waiting to snap a shot of a jumping dolphin, you can press the REC button after you've made sure that the dolphin has cleared the surface of the water. The camcorder will record the entire scene, from the instant of the dolphin's jump until it disappears again into the sea.

Color Night View
Leave the light off. Color Night View gives you images with color even in dim lighting (2 lx). Light from the LCD is gentle and easy on the eyes, so you can snap shots of sleeping children without waking them up.

Auto Power LCD
The LCD brightness can be adjusted manually to suit the surroundings. In Auto mode, the LCD brightness is adjusted automatically in 16 smooth steps depending on the surroundings. In darker rooms it adjusts to a lower brightness, making it easier to frame the shot. Outside, it adjusts to around twice the brightness for easy viewing even on sunny days.

0.8-second Quick Start
Simply flip open the LCD and you're ready to shoot in just 0.8 second. When Eco mode is also used, the power turns off whenever the camcorder has not been operated for 5 minutes. This reduces wasted power consumption, and enables a longer battery life.

World Time
Handy for travellers, this function makes it easy to set the camcorder time when you cross time zones and again when you return home. Simply select your destination from the displayed map, and the camcorder is automatically set for that time zone. The time for two different places can be set--such as home and destination--and you can switch between the times by simply pressing a button.

Easy Editing
You can do some polished editing using just the camera itself. For example, you can delete scenes right on the spot or change the scene sequence to create your own scenarios.
Playlist Edit It's easy to change the sequence of the scenes you've recorded, and then play them back.
Dividing and Deleting This function makes it easy to split up the recorded scenes and delete the front half or back half.
Editing and Networking

Web Mode for Easy Uploading to YouTube
Shooting YouTube limits videos to 10 minutes. In Web mode the camcorder uses a 10-minute countdown system, so you're assured that the recording won't be too long for YouTube, and you won't have to edit it down after shooting.
Uploading The Upload mode in the VideoCam Suite (included) is automatically activated as soon as the camcorder is connected to the PC. To upload, simply choose the image file you want and click the Upload button. Encoding is no longer a hassle, as the software does all the work for you.
Included Editing Software: VideoCam Suite 2.0
VideoCam Suite editing software is just the tool you need to make polished, smartly finished productions. It lets you load images into your PC for putting scenes in a different order and delete the ones you don't want with simple operation. When you're finished with your video production, you can use VideoCam Suite to reserve the edited version onto a DVD disc.
USB 2.0 (HS Mode) USB 2.0 compatibility lets you upload a motion picture data to a PC at high speed over a single USB cable.
Easy DVD Copying
Connect the H90 directly to a DVD burner via a USB cable. You can then copy recordings from the SDHC/SD Memory Card or HDD to a DVD disc with easy operation. The disc you make can be played on DVD players, so playback is easy too.

VIERA Image Viewer
If your VIERA TV has an SD Memory Card Slot and can play MPEG2 files, you're equipped for spectacular viewing. Just slip your card into the slot and get ready to watch beautiful motion pictures on VIERA's large screen. You get all the fun of seeing your images on the big screen, with none of the hassle of connecting cables.

Storing on a DIGA
If you have an MPEG2-compatible DIGA with an internal hard disk and SD Memory Card Slot, saving your images on the hard disk is as easy as inserting an SDHC/SD Memory Card into the slot. This saves space you'd otherwise need for storing the recording media, and makes playback easier. And once the data is on the hard disk, it's easy to copy it to a DVD disc.

Kawasaki_Ninja250R

Japanese manufacturers didn’t quite focused on producing 250cc sportbikes these last years, Kawasaki remaining the only bike builder with such a motorcycle on sale today for the U.S. market. The smart choice was to keep producing and yet improving this icon, and this way it managed to dominate the American market at the given category. By using a perfect combination of rider-friendly engine, easy to operate chassis, and modern design, this Ninja is a true companion on your road towards bigger motorcycles, like the ZX-6R and ZX-10R.

Riders who are willing to be initiated in the wonderful world of motorcycling and prefer a sportier ride are most likely to jump on the Kawasaki Ninja 250R so it is best to know what to expect. I certainly did. I found myself facing an engine that thrives on high-rpm excitement. Riders will definitely appreciate the 249cc parallel twin which has been retuned in order to spice up its smooth and predictable power delivery and the results are simply awesome. I now enjoyed more low- and mid-range rpm torque thanks to revisions to its dual overhead camshafts and a new two-into-one exhaust system. This last unit doesn’t make more sound than necessary; let’s say it has enough to do by delivering awesome performance just above idle.

What this ride now needed was the silky smooth six-speed transmission which complements all the awesome features of the engine, toping off the sportbike equipment list. What is so great about this gearbox is that it enables the 250R to exploit a powerband that’s sure to please riders with its beginner friendly low-end grunt and a lively top-end rush that’ll keep seasoned veterans satisfied.

That gutsy engine in communion with a great transmission unit, not only makes it one sweet machine to be on, but it actually delivers excellent fuel economy which is excellent for the novice rider which with more than one occasion can forget to gas it up.

Being a sportbike, it can somehow be considered as being uncomfortable, but a natural riding position and comfortable ergonomics combined with its lightweight handling, easy controllability and improved throttle response make the 250R a pleasure to ride on city streets

Also new for 2008 are the larger 17-inch wheels that, apart from offering a big-bike look, also contribute at offering great handling and improved stability.

I appreciate the suspensions because they are very appropriate for this ride and manage to keep it steady in corners while still keeping things smooth and relatively simple.

A larger 290mm front brake rotor is gripped by a powerful 2-piston caliper to provide a healthy dose of stopping power with a responsive feel at the lever. Like Kawasaki’s other sport models, the Ninja 250R is fitted with petal discs for efficient heat dissipation.

So even if you gathered a few miles or if you are just beginning your riding days as a sportbike rider, the Kawasaki Ninja 250R proves it has the ability to make all those steps together with you and it also brings all the satisfaction that will determine you to head only towards Kawasaki from now on. In the city or on twisty country roads, the lightweight, rider-friendly Ninja 250R is a blast to ride! With an engine character that can be fully exploited, a compact, easy to operate chassis and full-fairing supersport styling worthy of its moniker, this model was developed to offer street sport performance to riders of all skill levels.

-Involute splines reduce friction and backlash between gears and shafts for easier gear meshing and smooth shifting under power
-Spring-type clutch damper reduces jerkiness at very low speeds and minimizes shocks when rolling on and off the throttle for a smoother clutch feel
-Paper-base friction plates help increase cutch durability

Chassis:

-Sturdy and durable diamond-style frame of thick-walled steel tubing offers confidence-inspiring stability at both high and low speeds
-Beefy swingarm bracket contributes to the frame’s rigidity and helps achieve an ideal chassis stiffness balance
-Square-tube swingarm with a 60 x 30mm cross-section further adds to rigidity
-New 37mm telescopic front fork with firm settings contribute to the Ninja 250R’s smooth, stable handling and enhanced ride control
-Uni-Trak rear suspension compliments the rigid frame and re-tuned fork and provides great road holding ability
-Rear shock features 5-way adjustable preload, enabling the ride height to be maintained whether riding solo or with a passenger.

-Features 17” wheels like its larger supersport brothers
-Low-profile sportbike tires on wide rims contribute to its easy, neutral handling at low speeds
-Large-diameter, 290mm front petal disc and a balanced action twin-piston caliper offer excellent braking performance and a natural, direct feeling at the lever
-Two-piston caliper grips the rear 220mm petal disc

-Natural riding position with slightly forward-slanting seat and wide, raised handlebars

Bodywork:

2008 Kawasaki Ninja 250R

-Styling matches its larger-displacement Ninja supersport sibling
-Fit and finish of striking full-fairing bodywork on par with that of top-class Ninja supersports
-Aggressive dual-lamp headlight design, slim tail cowl and separate seats further enhance the supersport look
-Front cowling and windscreen offer the rider a substantial amount of wind protection
-Two helmet holders conveniently locate under the rear seat
-Under-seat storage can hold a U-lock or similar device
-Two hooks under the tail and the rear passenger pegs provide anchor points for securing items to the rear of the bike
-Instrument panel features an easy-to-read, large-face analog speedometer along with an analog tachometer, odometer, trip meter, fuel gauge and warning lights
